The Gift of Impermanence
One thing that gets me out of bed every day is knowing that life is not permanent. I know that sounds morbid to some, but truly, none of us know how long we have to live. I’ve had a few life circumstances open my eyes to that fact even more, and the times we live in right now are bringing it to light repeatedly.
As a recovering “worrier,” I can feel myself approaching the slippery slope into negativity and fear around this. Yet, there is also a glimmer of hope, light, and motivation that I hang onto when I think deeply about our impermanence in this world. It is a fact that our time on earth is limited. We can look into this when we evaluate how we are spending our time, and make changes to get more out of it.
When I get my clients to dream beyond the limitations of today’s reality, there is a magical moment that occurs. Their eyes light up, their energy shifts, and I can see the hope building for the future that they want to create. THIS: limitless potential, endless possibility, dreaming big and joyous expression of their God given desires is indescribable. It’s a beautiful moment in a time of uncertainty.
If you’re wondering what the possibilities are for you, I want you to simply sit quietly and breathe. Close your eyes, put your hand on your heart and ask yourself a few questions:
What is my soul longing for?
What do I wish I could create more time for?
If I were to learn of a terminal illness tomorrow, what would I clear space for?
What is the legacy that I want to leave?
The answers to those questions, whatever that came to mind, that is what matters most.
So when you wake up in the morning and look at your calendar and step into the whirlwind of your day, remember the answers to your questions. Remember that you might not have a “someday.” The acceptance of impermanence can be startling, but it can also nudge you to take action.
Once you start to make space for these soul led actions, I believe you’ll look back on that impermanent perspective with gratitude and faith. Soul-led actions come with no regret. The actions might be difficult but you won’t regret that you took them. You will feel proud. You will feel alive. And most of all, you will inspire others, just by being you and following your soul-led guidance.
