Time Management is Not the Best Way to Reach Your Goals

Managing your time is not the best way to achieve your objectives. Believe me, I get why we feel like it is.  We’ve been taught since we were in school - get a planner and plan your day!  Then, at every job we’ve had, it's been ingrained in us - write a to-do list, timeblock, use the pomodoro method (25 min. focus, 5 min. break).

Let me ask you.  Does everyone with a planner or bullet journal crush their goals?  Clearly the latest calendaring system doesn’t guarantee goal execution.

In fact, you could plan your day, re-copy your to-do into categories, and still end up having to re-write your to-do list into the next day’s planner page!

What DO people who reach their goals do…?

They become the version of themselves who’s accomplished that goal.

How do you do that?  You start by getting crystal clear on who that person is.  Envision the future you with the fully accomplished goal.  What does it feel like?  Who is that person?  What are their habits?  What does their day look like?  What actions did they take to get to the end result?  What is their mindset like?

Then, with incremental action, you step into the shoes of your future self.  I know, it sounds way too simple and there are so many obstacles in the way.  However, the final step of the process is seeking out those obstacles proactively and learning to move through them.

Do you really want to learn the latest time management hack?  Or would you rather learn to step into your future-self’s shoes?  The one who knows a way to move through any block and has a system to continually take soul led actions?
