Consequences of Procrastination
We all know the feelings we have after procrastinating. Whether it be disappointment, guilt, frustration, or shame, none of these feel good. The worst part is the erosion of our self-trust over time in our ability to follow through on important deliverables.
In addition to the negative feelings, what are the effects on our business? This is the unmeasured truth that could be devastating. Take a few of these procrastinated task examples, such as; taxes, cleaning out your inbox, waiting until the perfect moment to launch a new service, a book project, or having an important performance discussion with an employee.
Given these examples, some possible consequences could be...
Late fees and interest charges
Costly inefficiencies
Missed deadlines
Client mistrust
Delay in revenue
Lack of visibility, fewer sales
Employee mistakes or delays
Recent research even shows that procrastination can damage your health by increasing your vulnerability to illnesses. It also increases the chances of stress-related health problems such as headaches, digestive issues, and insomnia. This could turn into unpaid time off and a hit to the bottom line.
So what are we waiting for? Yes, it is easy to get caught in the vicious procrastination cycle AND the good news is that it CAN be solved with repeated attention to changing this behavior!
