Procrastination is not a problem…  it is a guidepost

You do not need to STOP procrastinating.

Look, I understand why you dislike your procrastination tendencies.  Think back to school, we were always in trouble when we procrastinated studying, left chores until last minute, or let the fun come before the “work”.

Let me ask you.  Does everyone who procrastinates fail at getting the RIGHT things done?  Not all the things but the right things…?

I know plenty of people (lots of entrepreneurs) who have mastered the art of procrastination. They allow the deadline and the fact that the deliverable is due to someone else create built-in motivation and urgency that carries them through task completion just in time for their deadline.

So we know that ending procrastination altogether does not HAVE to be the goal.  Let’s explore what you might want to try instead.

First a little backstory…  One thing that I know after almost two decades of coaching is that those big scary goals that you long to accomplish come with a lot of resistance.  This means that if you set out to do big things (examples - launch a business, start a podcast, quit your day-job) big obstacles will inevitably show up in the way of you taking action. If it was easy, everyone would do it.  There will be mindset blocks, time scarcity, money or resource challenges. Its all part of the process.

Do you know what obstacles like to disguise themselves as on this path to the life and business that you crave…?  Yep, procrastination.  So when you sit down to write that business launch email or record that first podcast…  Don’t be surprised if you find yourself procrastinating.  There will inevitably be 10 other things that SEEM more important in your life right at the exact moment you chose to take the big action.

This, my friend, is your clue that you are heading in the RIGHT direction.  Because soul led goals come with resistance.  It will feel hard to focus, it will feel like the wrong thing to be doing, it will feel like everything else in the world is so much more important than that which you are sitting down to do.  So, of course, procrastination is likely. It’s also EASIER to say, “see, I’m such a procrastinator” and it conveniently gets you out of taking action on uncomfortable things.

But what if instead, you saw your procrastination as a GUIDEPOST that you are heading in the right direction? When you catch yourself procrastinating, lean into the discomfort!  Use the procrastination as a compass.  Its showing you, THIS is where you want to focus!  Because, this is where the magic happens.  Procrastination/resistance means you are working on the soul-led deep down desires.  Those are the ones you were put on this earth to do.

So let me ask you this - do you want to keep hating on your procrastination?  Or are you ready to embrace it as your best guidepost - pointing you in the direction of where you will take action anyway amongst the discomfort?
